less than修饰不可数名词，fewer than修饰可数名词，均表示“少于”。但是，如果复数可数名词不强调其一一可数，而是表示一个整体单位，一段时间或一段距离，指的是度量，则要用less than,因为度量是一个不可数的抽象概念。
less than和fewer than区别
1、意思上的区别
fewer than：少于。
less than：不足；以内；小于，决不；没有。
2、用法上的区别
fewer than用于可数名词。
less than用于不可数名词，实际生活中也可以用于可数名词。

Yesterday no fewer than thirty climbers reached the summit
昨天至少30名攀登者登上了顶峰。
Fewer than a thousand giant pandas still live in the wild.
只有不到1,000只大熊猫仍然在野外生活。
②、less than
The marriage had lasted for less than two years
这段婚姻维持了不到两年。
In less than two hours Cohen capitulated to virtually every demand.
还不到两个小时，科恩就屈服了，接受了几乎一切要求。
