英语中比较级前一般不加定冠词the，但是当要特指两者中“较(更)…”时，比较级前通常要带定冠词the，此时可视为比较级后省略了有关的名词或代词one，即定冠词实为修饰被省略的名词或代词one。
比较级前面什么时候加the
以下句型中，比较级前须加the：
1、用于“the+比较级，the+比较级”，表示“越…越…”
如：The more, the better.越多越好
The sooner, the better. 越快越好。
The more dangerous it is, the more I like it. 事情越是危险我越喜欢。
The more you eat, the fatter you will be.
2、the +比较级+of the two.......句型
He is the cleverer of the two brothers.
Of the two brothers, He is the cleverer.
(of the two 也可置于句首）
3、the +比较级+名词，即：比较级修饰名词作定语时
Which is the larger city, Beijing or NewYork?
Which is larger, Beijing or NewYork?
4、当by far用于修饰比较级且置于其前时，比较级前要用the
He’s by far the cleverer student. 他是个聪明得多的学生。
It’s by far the quicker to go by train. 乘火车要快得多。
5、在比较级前用the表示程度(通常有表示原因、理由或条件的短语或从句)
如：I feel the better for my walk. 散了一下步我觉得舒服多了。
I love him all the more for his faults. 正因为他这些缺点，所以我越发爱他。
