When a German couple noticed a man's head and shoulder sticking out of a glacier in the Austrian Alps recently, they made history. The frozen corpse was about five feet 21 and scientists who helicoptered to the site determined that it was 4,000 years old -- the first 22 body ever found from the Bronze Age. Mummified by the wind and snow, he came 23 with skin, bones, internal organs, and fingernails. He was 24 in leather shoes and finely stitched leather suit, insulated with hay. An array of weapons and equipment was found alongside him 25 a leather quiver with fourteen arrows, a stone necklace, a fire flint, a knife, and a ax with a crude bronze head.
"The find is of 26 scientific meaning," said Konrad Spindler, professor of Early and Primeval History at the University of Innsbruek, who is investigating the 27 . Skeletal remains of buried corpses have been excavated before in Bronze Age graves. But "the iceman," as Austrian newspapers dubbed him, was going about the normal course of life when he died 28 the ages of 20 and 40 ~ which means he should yield a treasure-trove of information about conditions 4,000 years ago. Questions 31~35 are based on the following passage.
The dog has always been considered man's best friend. Always noted for being particularly faithful in watching over children, he also has his place by fireside, in the cow pasture, on the sheep range, and beside the hunter in forest or blind. He is easy to train, works hard, and often performs astonishing feats. And in the frozen polar regions he was once the principal motive power, before being largely displaced by the plane and helicopter.
Because he howls or whines(哀鸣) in the presence of impending(即将发生的) death, the dog was once thought to have supernatural powers and believed to be capable of seeing gods and ghosts invisible to people. Actually, the basis for these beliefs lies in the dog's
sensitivity to people's feelings and his superior hearing ability and sense of smell, which enable him to detect signs hidden from human observation. His record of saving lives is outstanding, for he often gives warning of fire and other dangers not noticed by his master. The dog's major contributi6n, however, has been to medical research. Both his diet and his structure are comparable to those of the human being, and so he has been the subject of countless demonstrations and experiments. Open-heart surgery has been made possible largely because of the dog. But his sacrifice has repaid his own species as well by safeguarding it from rabies(狂犬病),distemper, and other disease.
31. The dog has always been noted for __

A. a treatment for rabies
B. open-heart surgery

Questions 36~40 are based on the following passage.
Most people assume that color blindness is only an inability to see red and green properly. This assumption greatly oversimplifies the condition, which is usually an inherited abnormality but is sometimes the result of disease.
In normal color vision, any color a person sees can be identically matched or reproduced
in the brain by a mixture of the three primary colors of light -- red, green, and blue. This normal vision is called trichromatism (In Greek chroma means color).
People affected by color deficiency (perhaps a better term than color blindness) make up about 8.5% of the population -- 8%male, 0.5%female. They may be divided into three categories.
Monochromats, those affected by the worst of the color deficiencies, see everything as avariation of one color. Diehromats match any color with a mixture o{ two prinary colors.
Anomalous trichromats mix the three primary colors but somehow alter the proportions used by the trichromat with normal vision.
The term "color blindness" is usually an exaggeration. The achromatic or true color-blind person is rare. But the problem of color deficiencies is much more complicated than "red looks green and green looks red.

There are robots all around us. Some do very complicated jobs like flying airplanes and driving subway trains. And some do one simple job.
When an automatic washing machine is switched on, water pours in. the machine waits until the water is hot before washing the clothes. It does this by "feedback". Information about what is happening is "fed back" into the robot to tell it what to do next.
Our eyes, ears and other senses are our feedback. They tell us what is going on around us. So robots are like people in two ways. They work and they have feedback.
There are robots all around, making Our lives easier. Some of them, llke the pocket calculator, can work much more quickly than human beings can. And they rarely make mistakes. In some ways robots are better than people. They work quickly, but do not make mistakes. They do not get bored doing the same job over and over again. And they never get tired.
Robots are very useful in factories. They can be taught to do many different jobs, First their electronic brains must be shown how the job is done. A person moves the robot's "arms" and "hand" through each part of the job. The robot's brain remembers each move. When the robot is put to work on its own, its brain controls the rods, wheels and motors which move its arm.
When the robot is needed for n new job, its electronic memory is "wiped clean". Then it is taught how to do its new task.
Ifthe robot's hand stgps working, or is something gets in the way, it cannot do the next part of the job: So it stops and signals for help. Then a human engineer attends to the fault.
The most "intelligent" robots can move and see their eyes are cameras. Their metal fingers can feel shapes and even find out how hot and cold objeets are. These robots have computer brains, linked to their eyes and fingers, which control their actions.
51. According to the author, robots can do various tasks, from ones.
