Part 2: Questions (31-35) are based on passage 2.10 points

Passage 2

Marriage is still a popular institution in the United States, but divorce is becoming almost as "popular". Most American people get married, but at the present time, fifty percent of American marriages end up in divorce. However, four out of five divorced people do not stay single. They get married a second time to new partners. Sociologists tell us that in this century , most American people will marry three or four times in one life time. Alvin Roffler , an American sociologist , calls this new social form serial marriages. In his book Future Shock, Toffler gives many reasons for this change in American marriage. In modern society, people's lives don't stay the same for very long. Americans frequently change their
jobs, their homes , and their circle of friends. So the person who was a good husband or wife ten years ago is sometimes not as good ten years later. After some years of marriage, a husband or wife can feel that their lives have become very different, and they don't share the same interests
any more. For this reason Foffler says, people in the twenty-first century will not plan to marry only one person for an entire lifetime. They will plan to stay married to one person for perhaps five or ten years, and then marry another. Most Americans will expect to have a "marriage career" that includes three or four marriages.

Part 3: Questions (36-45) are based on passage 3.20 points
Passage 3
When I was in America
For most people the holiday season is a time of joy and family reunions. For me, it is a time of mixed emotions-for I have been away from my family and friends in Iran while studying in the United States. Rather than wallow in my loneliness, I have tried each Christmas to learn a little more about the culture of the country and know more about my American friends.
A tie-clasp I still wear reminds me repeatedly of the Christmas of 1989, which was quite memorable for me. All my classmates had eagerly looked forward to the holiday recess. I had no vacation because I was short of money. My check from home had not arrived on schedule because of the crush of holiday mail.
On weekdays I walked to the campus to pick up my mail at the International Students Office. But the all-important check still had not arrived. Maria, a Mexican-American student, who worked as a temporary secretary of the department as others left for their holidays , much have seen me as I left the mailbox with disappointment showing on my face. She invited me to spend Christmas Eve with her family. I accepted all too gladly.
Maria's family was not rich. They lived in a modest small house. Maria introduced me to her parents, her aunt and her sister, who welcomed me warmly. Maria's father could only speak Spanish, so he talked to me with Spanish. Maria's sister working as an interpreter. The kind look in his eyes and his relaxed behavior made me feel right at home.
The dinner was rich. Each dish had a distinctive texture, sauce and blend of seasonings. Maria's aunt ate while standing at a corner of the small, cramped table. I felt a little uncomfortable, knowing that I was occupying her place, but her gesture told me the sincere and unpretentious hospitality with which I was treated by Maria's whole family. After dinner, Maria chose a small package from under the tree and handed it to me. Inside I found the tie clasp I still use to this day.
Looking at the tie-clasp on my dress, I knew I would always regard it as a memento of an unforgettable evening of good fellowship in the midst of a bleak and lonely period of my life.
