Questions 21—25 are based on the following passage.
Disney World,Florida, is the biggest amusement resort in the world. It covers 24.4 thousand acres, and is twice the size ofManhattan. It was opened on October 1, 1971, five years after Walt Disney’s death, and it is a larger, slightly more ambitious version of Disneyland nearLos Angeles.
Foreigners tend to associate Walt Disney with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and with his other famous cartoon characters, Mickey, Mouse, Donald Duck and Pluto, or with his nature films, whose superb photography is spoiled, in the opinion of some, by the vulgarity of the commentary and musical background.
There is very little that could be called vulgar in Disney World. It attracts people of most tastes and most income groups, and people of all ages, from toddles to grandpas. There are two expensive hotels, a golf course, forest trails for horseback riding and rivers for canoeing. But the central attraction of the resort is theMagicKingdom.
Between the huge parking lots and theMagicKingdomlies a broad artificial lake. In the distance rise the towers of Cinderella’s Castle, which like every other building in the Kingdom is built of solid materials. Even getting to theMagicKingdomis quite an adventure. Questions 26—30 are based on the following passage.
Travel and tourism is not only the world’s fastest-growing industry, but also an important one economically. Recent studies by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) have shown that tourism revenues make up nearly ten percent of GNP in a number of countries.
The travel & tourism employs people in a great variety of jobs from airline workers; to hotel and restaurant employers; to retail salespeople; to manufacturers of crafts and other products which tourists like to buy. It is, therefore, an industry, which involves many industries that used to be considered as separate one from another. Even the name, travel & tourism industry, is relatively new.
Like other service industries, customer service is extremely important to success in the travel & tourism industry. Yet, at times, its customers --- tourists --- are not pleasant consumers and providing customer service can be a thankless task. By definition, tourists are people who have left their culture in the places they visit. Others do not. At times, there are tensions between tourists and local residents. Yet, when people who work in the industry or who live in a tourist area begin to understand tourism’s importance in their local and global economy, they can better relate to the tourists who visit their locality. In turn, as tourists become well educated about the industry, they become better customers. Travel & tourism education is an important component in this process.
